Expectations

There are a number of expectations of you throughout the application process, and career with the QPS (should your application be successful).

Queensland Police Recruit Applicant

  • You must embody the values of the QPS (Integrity, Respect, Courage) when interacting with Recruiting staff, representatives, and other applicants at all times. Offensive, aggressive, violent, or harassing communication (written, verbal, or physical) will not be tolerated.

  • You are expected to seek information/documentation (upon request) relating to your own personal circumstances and application processes to prevent unnecessary delays in your application. This includes reviewing the list of Supporting Documents required and ensuring that you will be able to provide these in a timely manner upon request.

  • You are expected to progress through the application process in a timely manner and maintain communication with Recruiting in terms of your status, assessments, and providing relevant documentation.

Queensland Police Recruit

  • The training is full-time and intensive.

  • While a recruit can apply for outside employment, consideration will be given to: any conflicts of interest, management of fatigue, level of risk of injury, potential adverse reflection on the QPS, and any other relevant factors including the impact on the Recruit Training Program.

  • Accommodation is limited. Recruits need to be at least 50kms (in a straight line) from the academy to be considered in terms of living in.

  • Recruits can apply for leave in extenuating circumstances for very short periods of time, providing that it does not adversely impact on their training.

Queensland Police Officer (following Recruit Training)

  • I will be required to work rotating rosters including night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

  • I will be trained in and may be required to use a range of ‘use of force’ options to safely resolve an incident. This includes the potential use of a firearm, OC spray, taser, baton, restraining accoutrements, open and closed handed tactics.

  • I will attend traumatic incidents (e.g., accident, fatality, and child abuse situations) and will perform duties in varying work conditions.

  • There are health and safety risks associated with being a police officer, including the risk of being injured when attending incidents.

  • I may be allocated to any training facility and station in the state of Queensland to serve the community. Extenuating personal circumstances will be considered in terms of your training and posting allocations. In your second year of service, you may be allocated to another station within that same District.

  • In general, there is an expectation that within 3 months of successfully completing the application process, I will be available to commence recruit training. Extenuating circumstances must be disclosed immediately upon application, and evidence provided where necessary for consideration.

The Queensland Police Service embraces religious/cultural diversity in the workplace. However, there are also genuine operational requirements that need to be met. While the QPS will undertake reasonable adjustment to accommodate an individual’s religious/cultural beliefs, not all requests can be accommodated.

QPSea (by ACER) or Exemption

For the next question, please review the information available on the QPS Recruiting website regarding the QPSea (by ACER) and exemption criteria

All applicants must have current QPSea results at the time of their application (results are valid for a period of 3 years from date of assessment), or be considered exempt from completing the assessment.

OPTION 1
I have successfully completed the QPSea (by ACER) within the last 3 years.
Please note, 'successfully completed' requires the following minimum assessment scores: Literacy = 115, Online Writing = 107, Abstract Reasoning = 104, Numeracy = no longer graded, Digital Literacy = no longer graded.

OPTION 2

I am a current or recently resigned police officer from an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction and I would be eligible for an exemption from the QPSea based on the criteria specified on the website.

OPTION 3

I have attained a qualification from a tertiary institution within Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, or the Republic of Ireland which I believe is equivalent to an AQF level of 7 or higher (Bachelor degree or higher), OR I received my equivalent qualification from a primarily non-English speaking country and can provide evidence that my degree was completed in English.

OPTION 4

I have graduated Year 12 in Australia with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score of 80 or higher (or an Overall Position (OP) score of 10 or less), with passing grades in English and Mathematics.

OPTION 5
I have graduated Year 12 in Australia with passing grades in English and Mathematics, AND have attained a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Associate Degree (AQF level 5 or 6) at an Australian educational institution.

OPTION 6

None of the above - I need to complete the QPSea. If eligible, I would like a voucher code to waive the cost of the assessment.

Important Information

You have not declared any operational/frontline policing experience within an Australian or New Zealand jurisdiction on this form.

Please return to the previous page and ensure you have selected the correct responses for your circumstances.

You have not declared that you have graduated Year 12 on this form.

Please return to the previous page and ensure you have selected the correct responses for your circumstances.

You have declared that you are applying through the International Recruitment Pathway, however the pathway option you have selected indicates you have completed Year 12 within Australia.

Please ensure you have selected the correct responses for your circumstances.

Note: If you have completed Year 12 within Australia, please contact Recruiting.Internationals@police.qld.gov.au to discuss.

As you do not meet any of the exemption criteria indicated above, you will need to sit and pass the QPSea in order to progress your expression of interest to apply (should you choose to submit this form).

Voucher codes (which waive the cost of the full sit of the QPSea) are issued to those who have not previously received and 'used' a voucher code for sessions following 9th May 2023.

Note: 'Using a voucher code' refers to either of the following circumstances:

  • Applying the voucher code when booking your QPSea (through ACER) and attending the session, OR

  • Applying the voucher code when booking your QPSea (through ACER) and not attending/cancelling your booking within 7 business days of your session.

Based on your responses in this form, you are eligible to receive a voucher to waive the cost of the QPSea.

Should you choose to submit an expression of interest at the end of this online form, you will receive a voucher code by email (along with instructions on how to use the code) within 5 business days.

Once you receive your voucher code, you are required to use the code within 7 days to make a booking, and it is expected that you will complete the QPSea within 30 days

If you do not book your QPSea (through ACER) with your voucher code within 7 days of receiving your code, you will need to recomplete this online form to receive another code.

If you use the voucher code to make a booking and fail to attend your QPSea booking, you will not be entitled to another voucher code.

Unfortunately, you are not eligible to receive another voucher, and would be required to personally cover the full cost of your QPSea booking. However, based on your responses to this form, you are considered eligible to commence the process.

ACER manages all QPSea bookings; please visit  https://qps.acer.org/ for more information on the QPSea and proceed to  https://qpsreg.acer.org/#/ if/when you are ready to register for the QPSea.

Do not attempt to provide false, incomplete, or misleading information to receive another voucher code. Doing so may result in the determination that you are unsuitable for appointment as a QPS recruit.

QPS Recruiting has not gathered any of your personal information within this form and you will not be contacted. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility or the application process, please email Recruiting@police.qld.gov.au.
